Mirian arrives home to her cabin in the Wayland Forest. As she dismounts Bigor, her ranger horse, she can feel her muscles trying to cramp up from exhaustion and dehydration. As she lands on her feet, she reaches all the way down to her toes in an effort to stretch out her aching muscles. Gaining some relief, she takes Bigor's reins and leads him to the back of the cabin, where there is a specially built shelter for him. She removes all their gear from him before brushing him down. She gives him some hay, grain, and water before going to the front of the cabin.
'I need to eat and get some sleep. But first,my report to the baron.' as she enters the cabin, noting that it is rather cool inside, and starts a fire before doing anything else. After the fire is going, she leans as far backwards as she can, feeling her back go pop-pop-pop all the way down. She thinks to herself, 'I need to eat and write my reports, then bedtime.' Going to her cold room, she procures some vegetables, eggs, and cheese. she prepares and chops the vegetables, Once the vegetables are ready, she puts them in a skillet along with some oil and spices, placing them over the fire. She retrieves her travel bags from where she left them by the door. She pulls out a couple sheets of parchment she has written notes on from her adventures in the area of the port city of Everport. She puts her notes on the table and takes out a new, clean parchment to write her report on. By this time the vegetables are starting to let off a fragrance that Mirian appreciates. She scrambles up a few eggs, adds them to the skillet, waits a few heartbeats, and throws in some cheese. Once the cheese is melted, she takes the whole skillet over to the table. 'Why dirty extra dishes? It's just me.' She eats the meal, then puts the skillet on the counter
'Time to buckle down and get this report written if I am going to be able to go see Culpeper tomorrow.' She breaks out a couple of candles and sits down to her report. At long last, after what feels like forever, she finally gets the report done.
She throws some more wood on the fire and stokes it up to keep the cabin warm through the night. She gets up going to her bed, and sits on the edge. She pulls off her soft leather boots, rubbing her feet. She undresses, then puts on her nght clothes. Mirian climbs into bed and pulls the blanket up.
She swings herself out of bed, She pads over to the fireplace, throwing on a few logs to stoke up the dying embers. She moves around her cabin, gathering up what she needs to take a bath in the lake behind the cabin.
With everything gathered, she puts on her cloak and lake shoes. It isn't even dawn yet when she heads out to the lake. As she makes the short walk to the lake, she notes that it is still pretty cool outside. When she reaches the lake's edge, she takes off her cloak, tossing it to the side. She places one foot into the lake and shudders, 'Colder than I thought; quick bath this morning.' She strides into the water up to her knees. Shuddering, she thinks, 'I'm going to have to dive in and get it over with.' She takes several deep breaths, then dives in. "Nomar, it's cold!" she shouts as she surfaces. Nomar is a deity of nature, whom most rangers in the region follow. She swims towards the shore until she is able to stand again. She unstoppers the vial of scented oil tied to her wrist, which she used when going to visit Culpeper. She gives herself a quick but thorough washing. When done, she rinses off and gets out of the water. She grabs her cloak and heads back into the cabin.
Upon entering the cabin, she goes straight to the fire, opening her cloak, exposing her body to the heat from the fire. Once the heat has taken the chill from her, she takes off her cloak, placing it on a chair by the fire so that it is heated for the trip to Culpeper's. She cleans the cabin, putting everything away, and then cleans last night's skillet. 'Alright, everything is back in its place. time to get ready.' She gets herself dressed, then goes to the cold room, grabbing three apples. two for her and one for Bigor. She checks her travel gear, including her ever-full canteen. a gift from the elven people for her help a couple of years ago. It is a magical canteen that is always full of fresh, cold water.
Once she is satisfied everything is good to go, she heads out to Bigor's pen. As she rounds the cabin, Bigor neighs a greeting to her. She smiles to herself as she sees him. A ranger's horse was a ranger's best friend. friend, companion, and protector. As she walks up to him, she holds out the apple to him as she takes a bite of hers. In seconds Bigors's apple is gone, and he is now eyeing Mirian while she chews. Mirian laughs at Bigor, saying to him, "Alright, you hog, you can have the rest of this one." She feeds him the half apple, then pulls another one from a pocket. "No, this one is mine!" She chastises him playfully as she rubs his muzzle.
When they are done with the apples, she checks Bigor over to make sure he is ready to travel. "Want to go to Culpeper and Dilda's home?" Hearing those names, the big boar's ears flick all the way forward, letting Mirian know he was paying attention. She gets his saddle and reins in place and adds her travel bags and other gear and supplies in their places. checks the daggers placed at the top of her boots, the sword hilt over her left shoulder, and the bow in her left hand. Satisfied, she mounts up and moves out.
