for the Next two days they ride along. They occasionally come across other people on the road. They stop to check in with them, exchange road information. They ride on with nothing interesting happening. Very boring by Ranger standards.

Half way thru day six as they are Loping down the road Mirian sees in the distance a large structure. She wonders if that is the Temple to Newmoir that Bendra told her about. It takes her another couple hours for her to get close enough to see details. It sure looks like a temple to her.

As she approaches the road leading to the structure, A man wearing Monk type robes steps into the road. Mirian pulls up short, "Greeting Holy Man, something I can do for you?" The man looks up to her, "Are you the Ranger?" Mirian does not know what he means by THE Ranger. "I am A Ranger. Is there something I can do for you you?" The man looks a little less sure as he says, "The High Priest at the Temple of Newmoir set me to watch the road and bring THE Ranger to her. Are you she?" She still doesn't know what he is talking about, but knows the Deities can be cryptic. She suspects she is THE Ranger is quetion.

Mirian dismounts Bigor, tells him, "follow!" She looks to the Monk, "Let us go talk to the High Priestess and find out, shall we?" The Monk getures for her to follow him. As she follows him she looks around. She sees that the land around the Temple appears to be Farmland. There are People working the land, tending crops with the help of oxen. Goats, Sheep, pigs and other animals roam the land. Buildings she assumes are for housing, several Barns and other buildings. Overall she is impressed with what she sees so far.

As they walk towards the Temple several people look up, sees them , waves. The Monk smiles to the people, waves back. "I notice you looking around as we walk. We are a completely self sustaining Farm. We grow enough food that we are able to sell our excess. Newmoir is a Peasant and Farmer Deity. With the success we have had with the Farm over the years, I like to believe she approves." They walk a little further before she replies, "It is very impressive. I Do not believe I have ever seen such a large, successful looking farmer community." The Monk smiles again looking pleased with her words. They walk the rest of the way to the Temple in silence. When the arrive at the entrance Mirian turns to Bigor, "Wait!" The Monk looks to Bigor then Mirian, his discomfort obvious. "Is there A concern about Bigor?" She asks, gesturing to her Horse. The Monk hesitates for a moment before replying, "We do not normally allow animals in this area. Umm, we do not, uhh, want them fertilizing the area. If you catch my meaning?" Mirian laughs at the Monks chose of words. She looks around sees a gate nearby in the fence that lines the road leading to the Temple itself. "May I put him thru that gate, tell him to stay close" The Monk looks where she is pointing, replies, "Yes Ranger, that would be good, Thank you for your respect." Mirian walks over and opens the gate. She gestures him thru, telling him to "Wait!"

As they enter the Temple the first thing she notices is how big it appears. Their is an Alter and pews. She is surprised to see A table with bowls of Fruits in them close to the doors. There is a statue of Newmoir carrying a scythe and basket. A Frescoe of Newmoir gathering crops with her followers. Once she is done looking around she looks to Monk, "Shall we?" He nods walks between the pews. As they walk, she notices several doors in the wall. She wonders where they go, decides not to ask. She wants to know what the High Priest wants with her. As they approach the Alter she notes a door in the back wall. The Monk stops walking gestures towards the door. "That is the High priestess private room and office. Approach the door, knock three times, state who you are. Wait for her to tell you to enter." With this he sits on one of the Pews. "You are not coming with me?" He looks surprised by the question. "No, I was told to bring you here and wait or you. No, she wants to see you alone." It is Mirians turn to look surprised. She walks up to the door, knocks three times calls out, "This is the Ranger Mirian." From behind the closed door Mirian hears a soft voice reply, "Come Ranger, I have been waiting for you."

Mirian looks back to the Monk who makes a shooing motion. Mirian opens the door, walks thru, closes it behind herself. She takes a quick look around the room. Their is a small, neat, bed. Their is a small table big enough for a candle and a container of water or Juice. There is a large, functional desk with three chairs in front of it. On each of the walls is A candle holder with A Candle in them. Looking now to the Woman sitting behind the desk, she is surprised by how young she looks. She has long Blonde hair, High cheeck bones. As she stands to greet Mirian, Mirian sees that her clothes are that of a working farmer. Hanging from her kneck is a crossed scythe and sickle set. The Newmoir holy symbol. she holds out her hand to Mirian, "Did I hear you say your name is Mirian?" Mirian takes he hand, "Yes your Holiness, My name is Mirian." The Priestess gestures towards the chairs, "please have a seat." Mirian chooses the one in the middle, putting her straight across from the Priestess. "I bet you are wondering why I asked you here? I know you are a follower of Nomar not Newmoir. I also now you have some Clerical abilities and can cast Nomars spells." She pauses here looking at Mirian, laughs. "Got your curiosity going?" Mirian cautiously answers, "Yes your Holiness, you have my full curiosity going. How is it you now so much about me?" With a sense of humor the Priestess looks and points straight up. She has been known to share information with me that she determines I need. She determined I needed to now about you. Would you like to know why?" The Priestess still looks amused as she waits for Mirian to answer. "Yes your Holiness, I am very curious about your need to know about me." The priestess takes amoment to stop laughing. "Newnoir asked Nomar if we could borrow you for a week. There are no followers of Newmoir in the Ranger guild. We would like to fix that. We want your help. We have had several Children, boys and girls already training towads that goal. In fact, That boy Trubar that you healed on the way here is one of them." Mirian sighs with exasperation, looks up, "See? thats what I mean about better communication." Shaking her head, Mirian looks to the Priestess again. "Well...it looks like everyone has already agreed to this plan. They are just now getting around to informing me that I agreed." The Priestess laughs her understanding. "Welcome to my life Mirian."

The Priestess rings the Bell sitting on the corner of her desk. A moment later the Monk comes in, bows, "How may I serve you High Priestess?" She looks to Mirian for a moment then tells the Monk, "Please bring a pot of the Mint tea we got for Mirian and a Platter of cheese, meats and fruits. I do believe that is your favorite order when traveling?" Mirian again laughs and shakes her head. "Is there anything you were not told about me?" The priestess looks a little mischievous when she answers, "are you sure you want me to answer that?" The Monk shuffles his feet asking, "will that be all High Priestess?" Still looking at Mirian she tells the Monk he can go. Mirian wonders how much about her the Deities felt a need to tell her and why. "While I do admit to A certain amount of curiosity, I don 't believe we need to dwell on it at the moment. I do not know how long this process is going to take. I would like to get started right away. I have not done anything like this before or even really worked with Apprentices. I will be figuring this out As I go."

The Monk returns while the two women work out a plan to get this training and selection process completed. The priestess signals for him to put the platter on her desk. The Monk asks Mirian about her horse, wondering if she would like him taken care of by the Stable hands. "No, do not atempt to approach him without me there. He is trained to not cooperate with other people. If you try, without me telling him it is alright, he might hurt you." The Monk looks unhappily towards the Priestess. "You want one of our children to ride a beast like that? It might hurt me? Your Holiness, Please rethink this. Why do we need A Ranger Cleric?" The High Priestess looks at the Monk, with irritation, "Because there are currently only three Ranger Clerics in all of Dunberry. All three belong to Nomar. It appears Newmoir, Nomar and Ragnok got together and talked about it. They want more Ranger Clerics from different gods. Is that ok with you? Shall I inform Newmoir she should be consulting with you on these matters?" The Monk looks down, turning red with embarrassment. "No Priestess, My apologies. I...I am just worried about how some of her Followers will feel about dangerous warriors in our midst. Will we be bringing in our own order of Paladins like Ragnok? A order of Healers might be nice but Rangers and Paladins? I am sorry Priestess but I am worried about the changes." The Priestess takes a calming breath. One of the reasons she keeps this Monk on as her personal aid is that he is alwas straight forward and honest with her. Even when she doesn't like the answers or comments. Taking another breath she looks straight at the Monk, "Roday, You are a fine Monk and great aid to me personally. but your conservative streak really wears on my patience sometimes, you know that?" The Monk gives her a serious but playful smile, "Yes Priestess, I do now that. You tell me often enough it would be hard to forget." The two share a smile then the Priestess excuses him.

While the two women eat from the platter and drink the tea they finalize the plan for choosing a candidate for Ranger training. "These six children are all fourteen years old and have been working toward the Priesthood already. For the next year we work towards their Clerical training. When he or she turns fifteen they will concentrateon Ranger skills." Mirian nods her head confirming that is how it was for her. She was given basic Cleric training before being taken into the Ranger Guild. She also makes it clear that she is not an actual Cleric. She can cast some spells and do a few other things, but there are things she cannot do. For example she cannot perform a blessing. "when the one that is chosen turns fifteen they should focus on Ranger activities. We will need to get A Ranger to agree to spend time with the youngster."

It is agreed that Mirian will spend two days with each of the Candidates. Assess them and make recommendations. This going to cause her trip to Rothey to be delayed. "It is Ragnok's will, who am I to argue?"

Two days later Mirian and the high Priestess has all six of the youngters lined up in front of the Temple. "Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen. Ranger Mirian and I are here to tell you why you are really here at the the Temple of Newmoir. It is not becuse your local Priest and parents all of sudden decided to go on a Pilgrimage to the Temple. It is because Newmoir wanted you here. All of you have already started training to join the Priesthood of Newmoir. Because of that Newmoir is also considering having you trained to be Ranger Clerics." She stops here to give the Youngsters a chance to absorb what she has said. Trubar raises his hand. "Yes Trubar?" Asks Mirian. "Ranger Mirian, The others do not know but we have already met. You cast a healing spell on me, on my foot. If we are accepted as Ranger Clerics, will we learn healing spells like that?" The Priestess and Mirian exchange a happy look. They discussed a concern about some of the Candidates wanting to be Rangers with Spells. The fact that Trubar asked about a healing spell that was cast on him was a good sign as far as the two women are concerned. "Yes Trubar, you will eventually be taught that spell. I want to emphasize early, most of the spells you will be taught will be wilderness based. NOT attack spells like a Magi." Trubar nods his head in understanding. "I do not want to attack people, I want to help them. Like you did for me the other day." Mirian and the Priestess exchange another look. Trubar is making points already. The Priestess continues, "Ranger Mirian will be taking each of you away from the Temple for a couple of days to Assess your potential. Just so you know, she will not be the one who trains you if you are accepted. That will be another Ranger, Mirian will only be recomending one or two of you. We are hoping for one boy and one girl. However it could be two boys or two girls," When the priestess said two girls, the biggest boy snorted in derision. The Priestess walked right up to the boy so that they were almost touching. Looking down upon the boy, she asks in a very sweet voice, that everyone recoginized as trouble, "Did you want to add something?" The boy swallows before answering, "High Priestess, My apologies. When I look at the rest of the Candidates, not one of them looks big enough or strong enough for the job. and two girls?" The Priestess looks at him for a moment more then steps back. Pointing at Mirian, "Boy, I want you to look at that woman. Does she look that big to you? That dangerous to you?" The Boy shakes his no. "No, she does not. Would you be surprised to learn she is considered to be one of the most dangerous Warriors in Dunberry? According to Newmoir their are knights and Paladins that will not spar with her." She takes a moment to glare down at the boy, "Would you like to challenge her to a fight? You can have whatever weapons and armor you desire. She will have no Weapons, no Armor and will only be dressed in boots, pants and a Tunic. Well...do you wish to challenge her? If you defeat her, we will remove the girls from the competition. If she defeats you, and she will, you will stand before the evening meal and apologize to both of these girls and the Ranger. Do you accept?" The boy looks to the two girls, Mirian, then back to the Prietess. "No Priestess, I do not wish to challenge the Ranger to A fight." This time the Prietess snorts, "well, Newmoir may not have given you intelligence but she did give you Wisdom." The Priestess moves back beside Mirian, "Alright, Candidates, I want you to line up from tallest to shorest. As the Candidtes get themselves sorted Mirian notices the boy talking bad about girls is the tallet so is first in line. The two girls are the last two in line. Trubar is third to the end. "Alright, we need to even this up a bit." She points to the taller girl, "move up next to the one at the front." pointing at the other girl, "move up to the forth position."

Once the Candidates are lined up properly the High Priestess states for all to hear. "From here on, until the Ranger Mirian says otherwise, you belong to her. You have a problem with her, the other candidates or anything else you take it up with her." The Priestess walks back into the Temple. The Monk, Roday, walks out of the Temple. Mirian turns to Roday, nods at his approach. "This is the Monk Roday, he is the personal assistant to the High Priestess. She has asked him to assist me for the duration of your assessment. If he asks you to do something, consider it an order from me. I will not ask." She pauses for a moment, asks, "any questions?" The taller girl raises her hand. Mirian nods for her to go ahead and ask. "What will you be assessing us on? Skills?" Looking at the tall boy, "Attitude? That kind of thing?" Mirian was hoping that question wouldn't be asked, she wanted to surprise them with that. "Yes, you will be assessed on skills that you already have and those that you are in the process of learning." Mirian also looks at the tall boy while saying, "your attitude and many other things." The girl asks, "how will you be doing these assessments?" Mirian points towards a small Forrest on the the far side of the Temples property, "I will be taking each of you over there for two days and running thru a list of things that the High Priestess and I came up with. I will be going over some basic Ranger skills and a few Clerical abilities." Gesturing towards Roday, "He will be working with the rest of you in a group to check other Clerical abilities." She pauses again, asks, "any other questions?" When no else raises a hand she finishes, "You will be graded on a point system. The point system will be from negative five to five. The points will be given and taken on skills, conduct, attitude etc. I suspect Roday will be kinder with the points than I will. We already have to examples on how points will be given. One positive, one negative." Pointing towards Trubar, "you asked about spells, however, you specifically asked about a good spell, healing, not an attack spell or spell for your personal gain or good. For good attitude I would have given a point for attitude." She now points to the tall boy, "for you, I would have given a negative point for attitude." She looks directly at the boy, "Negative attitude." The boy looks down, thinking to himself, 'I might as well quit now, they already don't like me.' Mirian looks at the boy a moment longer, 'I dont believe we will have anymore trouble out of him, but that attitude could be enough. If he thinks his size instead of his brains is going to carry him thru situations, that could be a problem. backing down to a fight with me was a good start. didn't want to hurt the boy on the first day.' "Alright people Roday will take you to the supply area. You will be assigned a horse, gear and supplies for your two day visit to the forrest. You are responsible for this horse and gear for the whole two weeks. The two weeks will start tomorrow at dawn. We will go in the order that you are lined up." She turns to Roday, "would you please take our charges to the stables for their assigned horses and gear please." Roday seps forward holding up a hand, indicating he wants the Candidates to stay where they are. "good morning Candidate, I am the Monk Roday. As Ranger Mirian said, I am the personal aid to the High Priestess. I have been asked to assistant Ranger Mirian with your assessments. You are being assessed to e the first two ever Ranger Clerics of Newmoir. The first two. I want you to think aboit that. YOU will be setting the standard. YOU will be who the next Ranger Clerics look to. YOU will need to be up to it. Newmoir says YOU six are up to the challenge. I have never known her to be wrong, I do not believe she will be starting today." A couple of the Candidates know this to be A joke and laugh. "If you would please, follow me."

As they approach the stables Roday has them line up again. "Some of you might not have experiance with horses and their gear. Those that do not please take two steps forward." Three of the six step forward. Trubar and the two girls stay behind. Roday almost smiled seeing the tall boy step forward. He looks at the two groups and asks, "well? what do you believe we should do aboutthis situation?" Trubar and the two girls raise their hands. Roday points to the shorter girl, in what he is sure she believes is a good Military form she barks out, "SIR!, their are three trained, and there are three untrained. the trained should be assigned to the untrained sir. We are a team, SIR!" Roday nods his head. Pointing to Trubar, "your answer?" trubar shuffles a bit then replies, "Her answer is better than mine, lets go with hers." He points to the taller girl. "I agree with him," pointing to Trubar, "she gave a better answer." Royday looks to all three, nodding in approval. He will ask the other two what they thought later, in private.

"alright then, lets have you team up, then we will go in." The tall boy starts to walk around the group heading for Trubar. The taller girl sees this moves in front of him. "I am Hellen, I would ike to work with you on your Horsemanship. Will you have me?" The tall boy looks back her, seeing she is almost as tall as him. "I didn't believe you or the other girl would like to work with me for what I said earlier." Helen smiles, nods her acknowledgement of what he said. "Newmoir said all of us were qualified for this. I would bet good gold that we all have something we need to work on. I will help you with Horsemanship ship and to get over your bad thoughts on women. You help me with somethng I need help with, deal?" The boy breaks into a grin, "It's a deal Helen, My name is Domino." They shake then look around seeing the others are already paired up looking to Roday. They also look to Roday. "Good, now that you are all paired I want you to go in two at a time. Starting with Hellen and Domino."

It takes each pair about an hour to an hour and a half to come back outside. Without having to use his memory Roday can tell who the experienced verus the inexperienced are. He has them line up in their pairs to address them. "It is just about time for the midday meal. I want you to walk your horses to the ide of the the Meal hall and ground your horses. After you eat I want you to spend the rest of the day just riding around. Get the untrained used to the saddle. Any questions? Very good. We will meet by the Temple entrance as the sun rises. Domino, you will be the first to go to the Forrest with Ranger Mirian. You might want to be out here earlier than first light ready to go." Roday turns and walks back to the front of the Temple.

When Mirian arrives at the fenced off area by the front of the Temple, She is surprised to find not just Domino there but the taller girl also. Mirian dismounts to talk to the two. "Good morning, I assume you already know my name. What are yours?" "Good morning Ranger my name is Domino, I am from the township of Tripador. located very close to the the ocean and the border of Andor." She nods to him, then looks to her. "My name is Helen, I am from the Town of Tassle, we are located close to the border with the middle Kingdoms." Mirian looks between them for a moment, "Why are you here this morning Helen?" Helen looks at Domino, the back to Mirian. "The Monk Roday paired up experianced horsemen with inexperienced horsemen. Domino and I are paired. I wanted to make sure my Partner was ready to ride before you got here." 'good answer, Mirian thinks to hereself. Already thinks like team.' looking to Domino Mirian asks, "Are you ready Domino?" She mount up. The two youngsters walk to the side of Domino's horse. Domino looks a question to Helen. Helen smiles back telling him, "remember what I told you. Foot in stirrup, rock and forth, count to three then boost yourself up and over. Hold the reigns loose when riding. pull left, go left. pull right, go right. pulk backmtomstop or slow down. Also dont ride stiff, let your body move with the horse. We will work on it more when you get back." She steps away from Domino and his horse. Mirian already doesn't like this kid because of his comments about girls yesterday. Ragnok and Newmoir both sent reminders while she was sleeping that whey wanted her to be fair to this boy. As he settles on his horse, with a lack of grace, she looks back to Helen. Smiling, "Thank you for coming, it was nice of you to support your fellow Candidate." "Ranger, Ma'am," Helen replies. "He is not my fellow Candidate. When the Monk paired us up, he made us into Partners. It is job to help him thru the assssment and it is his to help me." Mirian is impressed with girls attitude. "Very well Helen. Roday was in the Meal hall when I left a few minutes ago. If you wish, you may go eat or go back to bed for an hour or so." Helen almost laughs at the suggestin of going back to bed. "Thank you Ranger, I belive I will go eat. No chance of going back to sleep." Mirian chuckles her understanding. She turns Bigor tuns the Forrest. She tells Bigor to match the other horses pace. Whn the horss are even, "so Domino. you have never ridden a horse before. That surprises me. Is there a reason for that?" Domino looks a little amused as works to stay on his horse. "Well Ranger, I believe you are going to laugh when I tell you." Mirian loos to him, "Make me laugh." The young man is already aware she has not forgiven him for yesterday. "Well Ma'am, both my mother and father re allergic to horses and cannot be around them. which meant we kids couldn't either." Mirian did chuckle a little, "I bet that made life interesting in a small township like yours." The young man laughed again. "Yes Ma'am it did. My father is a Tailor and Mother is a Sewer. They share being A Linener" They continue chattng, warming up to each other

It takes about two hours to get to the forest. About an hour into the ride Mirian stops Bigor. "We got off off to A rough start yeterday. What do you say we forget it and start new?" She holds her hand out to him. He takes the hand gratefully. "thank you Ranger Mirian. I am not a bad guy. An idiot sometimes, yes." The two laugh for a moment and they both feel the tension go down. "Alright Domino, we need to work on your Horsemanship. Like Helen said, let your body move with the horse, you are riding to stiff. Loosen up." Domino frowns down at the ground. "Yes Ma'am. Helen talkd to and worked on it with me yesterday when the Monk let us have free time yesterday. I am afraid of falling. I am sure I can get it." Mirian nudges Bigor into a walk, "I have a friend named Hillman. He had never ridden a horse before either. When we first met I had to have him ride Bigor to the city for help. He was scared of riding also. I just saw him a few days ago, he now rides like he was born in the saddle." Domino is heartened to her he has a friend who used to be afraid to ride. "Will my inexperience with horses hurt my chances of being accepted?" asks Domino. Mirian almost laughs, but refrained. "No. Not at all. In fact, it is the skill we assess the least at assessment time." Mirian chuckles as she says, "Usually because we understand people may not be able to afford a riding horse. Not because the family was allergic to them." They both chuckle as Domino says, "If Helen agrees can she continue working with me on Horsemanship? Even if I am not accepted as A Ranger Cleric I am still hopeful of being accepted as A traveling Cleric. I wish to serve Newmoir." Mirian is pleased with this last statement. He hesitates for a moment then asks, "Why would I want to be A Ranger? I have always wanted to be A traveling Cleric. I heard some of the others say they want to be Healer Cleric, Others that they wanted to be their homes new Cleric. Everyone wants to be Clerics, Priests of Newmoir. Now we are being told we are being considered as Rangers. My apologies Ranger, no offense is intended but we do not know what is going on here." Mirian stops Bigor and dismounts, waves Domino to do the same. Mirian pulls two apples out of her supplies, handing one to Domino. "hold your hand flat like this and hold it under your horses Muzzle." Mirian takes a few more steps before answering. "I am not real clear on this myself. I can only answer with my thoughts and opinions right now, is that ok?" He appears surprised by her answer, nods his head. "Newmoir, Nomar and Ragnok are friends. They are the Gods of good. They have friends from the begining of time. At the begining it was agreed that Nomar would have Paladins. Paladins being Holy Warriors. She also has A order of Cleric Healers. While much more organized, these healers are not as good as the Healers of Ragnok. The Ragnok Healer priests...are special. Newmoir has had travelers and healers before. Not what she is known for. Why is she coming out now with a Ranger Cleric? no idea. Although, I do suspect there is A reason, They have not shared it with me." Domino nods his understanding. They are close to enterig the forrest, Mirian decides to walk the rest of the way.

Helen walks into the Meal Hall, sees the table loaded down with food and drink on one side of the room, Roday sitting at a table by himself. She waves to him as she goes to the food table. She puts a small amount of bread, jam, meat and cheese on a small platter, picks up a mug of Juice. She walks over to the table where he is sitting, asks to join him. As she places her platter on the table Roday comments, "That was nice of you to see Domino off this morning. I watched you work with him yesterday on his Horsemanship. After his girl comment yesterday, I wondered how you two were going to get a long." Helen swallows the cheese she had bitten into asks, "How shall I address you sir? Sir? Monk? Roday? Or some other form of Address?" Roday smiles at her, "when it is just the Candidates and I Roday is fine. If others are around Brother Roday would be best." Helen nibbles at some of the meat while studying the man. He appears to be in his early Forties, with a bald head. A well manicured, trimmed beard and mustache. he wears the traditional Brown robes that Monks wear. "I think I like the sound of Brother Roday, so that is what I will call you." As she says this, A few others of the Candidates come in.

Roday chats with the Candidates until they have all arrived and eaten. Roday stands, without preliminary asks "Have any of you seen the Life Passing Ritual?" Nobody raises their hand. "That is probally a good thing. The Life Passing ritual is what it sounds like. When someone is about to pass away we perform this ritual. The only items you will need for this ritual is the Book of Newmoir and holy water........" He spends the next couple of hours working with and teaching the Ritual.

As Mirian and Domino enter the forrest, Mirian stops, Looks to Domino, "find and make camp. Your assessment has begun. If you ask reasonable questions I will answer them, but I will not do the work for you." She stays still making A 'after you' gesture.

Domino dismounts and walks into the forrest trail. After walking for about an hour he stops and ties his horse to A tree. "Should I be telling you what I am doing as I go along?" She tries to hide her amusement, "No, I believe I will know what you are doing right...and wrong." He looks around the clearing he has chosen. Going to the saddle bags on his horse, he brings out a small hand shovel. In the middle of the clearing he uses his feet to clear A large area, moving the leaves, branches and other debris from the area. He digs a shallow pit, finds and places stones around it. Mirian nods with approval, 'good fire pit.' Pointing to the west he declares "The river is a short walk in that direction. I want to check the perimeter before getting water." He stands looking at her, "since I put the fire pit here we shoud set our sleeping area over there," He points to the east this time. He goes to his horse again, moves to the south side of the camp. "I woud suggest we place the horses over here until we have a chance to check up the trail. They have better hearing and sense of smell than we do. They will alert us to anything coming toward us." Mirian nods her approval again. "I am going to give you a point for that planning. you are right the horses will act as sentries for us." Domino, smiles his appreciation. ... They spend the next two days doing the basics for wilderness survival. Mirian is pleasantly surprised by how well he does. 'He did surprisingly well. he needs some work with his Horsemanship and weapons, but we expect that with Apprentices.'

As they are mounting their horses Mirian tells him he is not to share anything that happened the last few days. Domoni assures her he understands. As They ride back she gets the horses up to a lope. 'well...he lacks grace but he didn't fall off!'

Eleven days later

Mirian, Roday and the High Priestess have the candidates assembled in front of the Temple. The High Priestess steps forward. "We have made our assessments. First, I want to say it was very close between all six of you, but we can only accept two at this time. Domino and Helen, you are our selections. The rest of you should return to your families. You have been accepted into the seminary. Trubar, we would like you to stay behind for A moment also. The rest of you please go."

Three of the candidates walk away looking dejected. The remaining three move together. The High Priestess watches the three walk away. Once They are A ways away. the High Priestess turns to Trubar, "Trubar, come forward." Trubar looks to the other two candidate then moves to stand in front of the three adults. "Trubar, you scored higher than anyone else. You are the only one who scored five points." All three candidates gasp in surprise. "Five points? Ma'am? Then why was I not selected?" The three adults look to each other, the High Priestess answers, "Trubar, you would not be happy as a Ranger Cleric. The whole time you have been here, you have talked about nothing but becoming a Healer Cleric and a Traveler. Everyone else wanted the chance to become Ranger Clerics. There are not many Traveler Healer Clerics that follow Newmoir. I have sent a summons out to the closest one. She will be here in about seven days. you will study and train under her. She will be your Master for the next four years. Does this suit you?" Trubar bows and vibrates at the same time, "Yes High Priestess, this serves me very well. I have always wanted to be A Traveler. After Ranger Mirian healed me, I wanted to be a Traveler and Healer. I am very pleased Priestess, thank you!" The High Priestess looks at Mirian for a moment, turns back to Trubar, "Do not thank me, Thank Brother Roday. Both the Ranger and I wanted to send you to the Ranger Academy. I thought the Ranger and Brother Roday were going to get into a fight. I am glad they did not. I like my assistant in one piece." she gives both Mirian and Roday A scowl. They both look down like bad children. "Trubar, please step back while we talk to the other candidates."

Domino, Helen you both recieved four points. Overall, you both did very well. You both have area's that need improvement. We have noted that the two of you have been working together on those areas. We commend you for that. Ranger Mirian will be leaving us today and moving on with her life. It turns out that we have disrupted a missin that she is on." She turns and smiles at Mirian. "She has given Brother Roday a list of skills that the two of you need to work on. Until the start your Clerical training he will be monitoring your progress with the list. I have sent for a special instructor Priestess for you, she also will be here in seven days. I would suggest working on the list Ranger Mirian is leaving us. I would also ask that you let Trubar work with you on these skills. He will need some of them also as a Traveler Cleric." The three youngsters look at each, nod, look back to the High Priestess. "Good, I turn you over to Brother Roday." The High Priestess and Mirian return to the inside of the Temple.

Mirian and the High Priestess exchange pleasantries and good byes. Mirian goes straight to the Stables, readies Bigor and is on her way. 'This little side trip has cost me two weeks. I sure hope it works out.'

Once she is on the road to Rothey again she kicks Bigor up to a full gallop. They were a days ride from the Rothey border when they got sidetracked by Newmoir Temple. She plans a hard rode for Bigor today, she knows he is up to it. They gallop, lope and walk in turns so as not to exhaust Bigor. As the sun is starting to go down she sees the border stations come into view. There is A station for Dunberry and one for Rothey. Both are flying flags for their respective nations. She rides a little further then makes camp for the night.

Dismounting she stretchs, bending all the way down to touch her toes. Standing, she reaches into a bag, pulls out an apple. "here ya go boy. You worked hard today and deserve this. We will take it much easier tomorrow." She removes all their gear from Bigor, tells him to go roll. When Bigor comes back she grooms and cares for him. Tells him to go crop grass. The High Priestess had food put in her kit that would just need to be heated over a fire. She eats, then climbs into her bed roll for the night. Clutching the note and flower around her neck.
